INFERENCE
Inference questions test your ability to read between the lines. You're expected to draw logical conclusions based on the passage without overreaching. A correct answer is subtle—it must be supported by the text, even if not directly stated. Watch out for extreme language or generalizations.

FLAW

Flaw-based questions evaluate your ability to spot weaknesses in reasoning. These flaws could be assumptions, logical leaps, or contradictions. The right answer points out a specific error in argument structure, not just factual inaccuracies. Understanding common reasoning fallacies is key to scoring here.

MAIN IDEA

Main idea questions check whether you’ve grasped the core message of the passage. A typical correct answer is broad enough to cover all parts of the text, yet specific to its key argument. Avoid answers that are too narrow, too general, or focused on a minor detail.
TONE
Tone questions measure your sensitivity to the author's attitude or emotional stance. Is the author being critical, nostalgic, sarcastic, or neutral? The right answer reflects both the word choice and the underlying sentiment of the passage. It’s not just what is said—but how it’s said.
